Zensurance is pleased to announce the SnuggleTooth Smile Mobile Clinic in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador is the winner of our $10,000 Small Business Grant 2025.

Natasha Pelley founded SnuggleTooth Smile Mobile Clinic, which offers mobile dental hygiene services throughout rural regions and underserved communities in Newfoundland.

Pelley explained in her grant application that dental care is often out of reach for residents of rural Newfoundland. She founded her mobile dental hygiene clinic, purchased a vehicle that was once an ambulance, and outfitted it to provide dental care to underserved communities in her region.

“Growing up in rural Newfoundland, I experienced firsthand the lack of regular dental care. Many families had to travel long distances for routine checkups, and some simply went without,” she said. “That inspired me to become a dental hygienist and, ultimately, to create a mobile unit that will bring oral healthcare directly to communities where access is scarce.

“My goal is to remove barriers that prevent individuals from receiving care, whether it’s distance, financial limitations, or lack of transportation.”

The $10,000 Zensurance Small Business Grant she received will help her purchase a portable X-ray unit, which will allow her to diagnose dental issues more efficiently and reduce the need for her patients to travel long distances for dental X-rays.

“Beyond the clinical benefits, this grant would support a small, woman-owned business dedicated to making a real difference,” she added. “My journey to entrepreneurship was inspired by a deep commitment to community service, a passion for healthcare, and the belief that everyone deserves access to quality dental care, no matter where they live.”

When asked about her views on protecting their business with business insurance, Pelley said it’s essential because it protects not only the business owner, but also clients and the tools owners rely on every day.

“Like my dental chair, which I’m still paying for. Accidents, unexpected events, or even simple mistakes can happen, and having the right coverage ensures that my business can continue operating smoothly without major financial setbacks,” she said. “Whether it’s safeguarding my equipment, covering potential liabilities, or giving both myself and my clients peace of mind, insurance is an investment in the stability and longevity of my business.”

We also asked what advice she has for other small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. She said running a small business can be all-consuming, but taking moments for yourself, including prioritizing your health and enjoying the little things that bring you joy, is essential.

“It doesn’t have to be a long break; even something as simple as a coffee with friends can help you recharge. Personally, I love driving by the ocean with my dogs; it reminds me why I started this journey in the first place,” she said. “Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your business. These small acts of self-care can make a big difference in your energy, creativity, and overall well-being.”

Words of Wisdom From Our 2025 $1,000 Grant Winners

Zensurance also awarded $1,000 to our other top five finalists, chosen from thousands of grant applications we received.

Zensurance is honoured to support these hardworking business owners as they continue to expand and contribute to their communities. Each of our $1,000 grant recipients were asked the following two questions:

  1. What is one piece of advice you have for other Canadian small business owners or self-employed professionals?
  1. Why is it important to have business insurance to protect your company?

Here’s what they had to say:

Meena Sandhu, Muse Baskets & Co. (Vancouver, B.C.)

Meena Sandhu, owner of Muse Baskets & Co., advised building your business around purpose, not just profit.  She said that when you lead with your values – whether supporting local, creating meaningful experiences, or giving back to causes you care about – you create something that truly resonates with people.

“As women entrepreneurs, our intuition and creativity are powerful tools,” she said. “Don’t be afraid to take up space, trust your vision, and stay rooted in your why. That purpose will fuel your growth and set your business apart in a meaningful way.”

She added that running a small business means pouring your heart into every detail. Whether you’re crafting products, serving clients, or building something unique, it all matters.

“Business insurance gives you peace of mind, knowing that if something unexpected happens, you’re protected. It’s more than just a safety net – it’s a way to protect your time, your energy, and your hard-earned progress,” she remarked. “With the right coverage, you can move forward confidently, take risks, and focus on growing your business without fear holding you back.”

Paranova Productions

Jeff Dell, Paranova Productions (Nova Scotia)

“Seek and engage in networking opportunities that are available to you,” advised Jeff Dell, owner, Paranova Productions. “Connections you make with your peers and other professionals in your field can be an invaluable resource that could pay dividends in the long run.”

Concerning the importance of business insurance, he said insurance not only protects business owners if the need arises, but it also shows a company’s potential clients that you’ve taken the necessary steps to protect their investment in you.

“Knowing you’ll be around for them long-term is an important building block for any client relationship,” he said.

Eagle Eye Master Works

Dylan Gambler, Eagle Eye Masterworks (Edmonton, Alberta)

Dylan Gambler of Eagle Eye Masterworks said it’s vital for small business owners to believe in the value they bring to the table.

“Don’t be afraid to dream big, set bold goals, and charge what you’re worth. The journey isn’t always easy, but every step forward – no matter how small – is progress,” he said. “Trust yourself, stay consistent, and surround yourself with people who uplift and challenge you. You’ve got this.”

He added business insurance is like a safety net – it’s there when life throws you a curveball.

“In construction, accidents can happen fast, and without coverage, it could cost you big,” he warned. “It just makes sense to protect what you’ve built!”

A Thousand Daisies Farm

Annaka Dallaire, A Thousand Daisies Farm (Joly, Ontario)

Starting your own business can be nerve-wracking, admits Annaka Dallaire, owner of A Thousand Daisies Farm. Her advice to business owners is to trust themselves.

“There will be ups and downs, but don’t let fear stop you from moving forward,” she said. “Surround yourself with a supportive community, stay connected to your why, and remember that progress, not perfection, is what builds success.”

Concerning business insurance, she said it helps protect what you’ve worked so hard to build.

“Whether it’s a lawsuit, property damage, or unexpected interruptions, having the right coverage means you’re not facing those challenges alone – or out of pocket,” she said. “It gives you peace of mind to focus on growing your business, knowing you’re prepared for the risks that come with running one.”

Rooted Rose Community Acupuncture

Bria Goodreid, Rooted Rose Community Acupuncture (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia)

Bria Goodreid advises other small business owners to love what they do and stay connected to their purpose. “Being self-employed means long hours and constant hustle, so passion is essential to sustain you through the ups and downs.”

The owner of Rooted Rose Community Acupuncture added that business insurance provides crucial protection for any type of business or startup, including health and wellness practices like hers, which are required to have it.

“Liability coverage is required to practice acupuncture, and commercial insurance safeguards the space we work in, ensuring we can keep serving our clients safely.”
